Traditionally, diamonds have gone up in price and have retained their value. Even in these times of recession, the best of the best (typically colored diamonds) have retained their high selling prices.

As for the future, all indications lead to the conclusion that there will be a shortage of naturally-produced (mined) rough diamonds – a simple matter of a supply versus demand imbalance. This leads to the prospect that diamonds will retain their value in the future.
