5th Edition of India-China Diamond Buyer Seller Meet in Beijing, Nov 28-30, 2011


The Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council ofIndia (GJEPC) is organizing the 5thIndia-China Diamond Buyer SellerMeet in Beijing from Nov 28-30, 2011 with the support of the Embassy of India,Beijing and the Shanghai Diamond Exchange (SDE). As part of GJEPC’s endeavourto promote the branding and exports of India’s gem and jewellery industry acrossgeographies and reach new milestones, this BSM which follows the successfulholding of the India-Euro Jewllery Summit 2011 provides an ideal platform forIndian manufacturers to meet b uyers and retailers in China.

 

Preciousstones (HS 71) were the 4th largest item of export from India toChina in year 2010, constituting more than 4% of the total Indian exports toChina. Out of this, export of diamonds constituted a share of more than 99%.India exported diamonds worth US$ 828 million to China in year 2010, recordingan increase of more than 78%. In the current year till October, India hasexported diamonds worth US$ 924 million to China, recording an increase ofalmost 38%. India is a world leader in the manufacturing of cut and refineddiamonds. Over the last half century Surat, the “Diamond Capital of India” hasbecome the world’s most important diamond center; responsible for an estimated90 per cent of the global polished diamond output, their value on the worldmarket close to 55 per cent.

 

Indiais the world leader in diamond processing and polishing and China is becomingone of the fastest growing diamond markets in the world. The 5th edition of the India-China Diamond Buyer Seller Meet will see 28 of India’sleading companies interact with manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers ofChina to develop better understanding of the business; identify synergies forcooperation and form new business relationships. Through this BSM, GJEPC hopesto enhance exports from In dia to China and look for opportunities in China forstrategic partner ships.

 

Since2007, these BSM’s have been instrumental in introducing at least 50 Indiandiamond manufacturers having expertise in manufacturing all shapes and sizes tosu ccessfully establish partnerships with jewellery manufacturers from mainlandChina.

 

Onthe occasion of this venture, ChairmanGJEPC, Mr. Rajiv Jain said “India,the hub of rea dily available raw materials- cut and polished diamonds, polishedcolo red gemstones & metals is today surging forward to create Brand India.The India China Diamond Buyer Seller Meet is thus a meeting of two minds withthe objective of establishing business relations between the participating countriesand expanding horizons.”
